Daniel must travel to his original place of birth to fulfill a yearly agreement, but this year proves to be a very deadly one.
This is the first part of the anime adaptation of Casablanca Memory.
Summary
On November 13, Daniel is practicing archery at the Hikawa Shrine, missing yet another target when a representative of Politician Andrews comes up to him and hands him a card, Pinako sees this and snatches the card away from Daniel and reads it, while Katerina and Narun observe that they had not known this side of Daniel before. Daniel snatches the card back and uncharacteristically tells her to mind her own business before announcing that he's finished his archery training early.
Rei tells the three girls that every year on the day his family was shot and killed, Daniel is invited to have a dinner with one of New Jersey's busiest politicians, Jeff Andrews. A car arrives to pick Daniel up and he leaves without saying goodbye to any of them.
On the ride over to the airport, the representative tells Daniel that he has good news from Senator Andrews, to which Daniel replies if he's now too busy for all of New Jersey, to which the representative says that his ambitions aren't national.
Meanwhile, A petty crook named Boltas is boasting to a girl about his "Mafia connections" threatening to sell her before she says that they're done here, the State Police arrest Boltas before he can retract his statement, but says something that chills the girl to the core "There is one more of yous out there!"
Hours later, Daniel and the representative arrive at the Times Go By restaurant, finding their table with the girl from earlier and Senator Andrews. they make brief small talk, but Daniel soon notices a song being played, he asks the waiter what the song is and the waiter explains that the name of the song is the same as the restaurant, "As Times Go By". Andrews apologizes for springing the yearly dinner so early this year as his Senatorial inauguration turns out to be on Daniel's Birthday, November 27.
Daniel thinks on the mysterious girl and believes he's seen her before, but can't put down when he's seen her, he begins remembering a time Three years ago where the entire Kano family sat down to have a thanksgiving dinner, that year, the holiday also happened to coincide with Daniel Kano's birthday, A car pulls up to the house where the family is celebrating with three people getting out, brandishing guns, as young Daniel is getting ready to blow out the candles, one of them goes out by itself as Daniel looks behind him, spotting a hole in the window, gunshots ringing throughout the house as each Kano family member drop one by one. man, woman and child, Daniel goes to check out back to see that his cousins have dropped dead as well, he soon sees the face of the mysterious girl as one of the children shot and killed by the mobsters.
Daniel opens his eyes and utters one name "Rose", as soon as the name is uttered, the mobsters from the flashback make their appearance at the restaurant, along with their leader, Signora Jerzuka, declares the club shut down so they can plan their activities, they have been informed that someone from the "Thanksgiving Massacre" had survived.
On another car ride to a local motel, Daniel is shaking his head to clear it of past memories. he looks outside, but has a hard time concentrating.
Trivia
- Although it is an adaptation of Casablanca Memory, Portions of the story are also adapted from the 1943 movie "Casablanca"
- This episode marks the first appearance of Rose Kano, albeit she is unnamed for most of this episode and is simply referred to in the credits as 謎の少女 (Mysterious Girl)
- As shown by the halfway point of the episode, the villain of the adaptation changes from Zoisite to the entire Jerzuka Mafia family.
- Senator Andrews calls Daniel Kano by the nickname "Cano"（ケイノ）, this is a reference to how his last name was pronounced in the English Dub.
